The Road

I'm not sure if it's just the call of the open road, the quest to see what's out there or just the adventure that lies ahead. All I know is the call is ever present.

Not all calls require scheduled rest stops or "pits" as some call them, but rather just to simply go, and go we must.

Some great adventures in my life have taken place in the dark recesses of the night as the fuel gauge inches closer and closer to the feared capital "E". Some happen in that little designated race course that lies around your neighborhood.

You know the one, you've spend the last four hours tinkering and adjusting things, you duck your head in the house and call out to your loved ones "Hey! I'm just gonna run it around the block!"

You don't even wait for a confermation as you bound out to the driveway, not even checking to see if the door is shut all the way. It's time, time for a run.

For me it's a quick first second run to the end of the block, hang a right and proceed to thoroughly piss off the neighbors! By the time I hit the next stop sign I'm certain someone has called ahead to inform the establishment that the Black Pearl has set sail again.

When no flags of war are flown, hang another right and bury it, hold, lift, shift, bury again and then the payer begins.......let the light be green..let the light be green! Occasionally the god's of the speed will hear me and I get the next free left and the game starts again.

Some quest start as a simple question, in the tiny fuel driven brain. "I wonder how long it actually takes to get there from here?" Never a question that should go unanswered, although I will say, that is a can of worms that is hard to get back closed, particularly if you know someone very important to you is waiting at the other end.

But really it's the adventure,  whether it be great or small, it's the inherent thing to go, to simply just enjoying the go.
